This is a thread to discuss how good/bad an upcoming movie is. important rules: No Trolling, no acting uncivil/stupid, no flaming, no calling people f***ot or n***er or anything along the lines of that and no straying off topic.
With that being said, LET'S DO THIS!!!

Dat new Godzilla jam looks tight as hell, nyuka Call of Godzilla: Modern Kaiju 2 That being said, it's just a teaser. It's piqued my curiosity though, and hopefully later trailers won't be so human focused. I can't wait to see what the two monsters he's going to fight look like.

George, speaking of teasers and other monsters I saw an earlier clip with a fallen kaiju (apparently busted up by Goji). For me that one was a lot more haunting and effective than the G.I. Joe action in the latest trailer.

So as part of the Berlinale lineup a new Tsai Ming-Liang film was announced starring Denis Lavant. Really exciting given he said Stray Dogs would be his last work, and I think that Lavant's physicality will be well-used.
Also there's a new Resnais, which is always exciting.

Sorry to tell you George, but every Godzilla movie was human focused and all the best ones were very military heavy. I've been going through all the old Godzilla films ever since I saw that first comic-con teaser and I have come to the conclusion that my favorite Godzillas have always been Godzilla vs Monster vs Military like in Godzilla vs. Destroyah or Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla (1993). Not to mention Godzilla has always been a metaphor for war, specifically nuclear war, so the military presence makes sense and is almost needed in godzilla films. Not really seeing your issue with it. I would rather the new monsters be a surprise anyway, let the reveal happen in the theater.

Paul Rudd Is Supposedly Gonna Play As Ant-Man..And Might Not Even Be Apart Of The Avengers Universe But I Think Marvel Screwed Up Enough To Know That This Movieverse Is The Best Thing They've Done Commercially In A While So More Than Likely He Might Be In Avengers 2 Or 3

"47 Ronin" looks like "Sucker Punch" to me. A whole lot of flash and no substance. I will be first in line to get it out the redbox though.

Gotta be 'The Raid 2'! I reckon it'll be a lot more sprawling and epic than the first though, which may or may not be a good thing.

I think my problems wern't so much the fact that the new trailer comes across as military heavy so much as the tone and beats it hits. The way it presented itself came across to me as far too pandery to the Mountain Dewrito audience. Perhaps it was just the editing in the trailer, as like Lab Rat stated the Oppenheimer clip is much better, but the trailer set off a few EPIC HOLLYWOOD BLOCKBUSTER red flags in my head. It's hard for me to articulate without writing a big essay, which quite frankly I lack the time and attention span to do right now. I'm aware that Godzilla films need some sort of human element, and by the same notion a military one, for the audience to latch onto, but I feel that they need to find a more even balance between the campy goofy military of the original Japanese films and the gritty seriousness that's implied by the trailer. (These concerns are worsened by the fact that Goyer of all people was at one point a writer on this project) Especially with a source material as silly as the original Godzilla. Maybe it comes off as a case of the NOT MUH GODZILLAS, but I suppose only time will tell. I wish them the best of luck, and I hope this film is a huge success that revives the franchise. However, I'm not letting myself become anything more than cautiously optimistic after America's last attempt at a Godzilla flick. I really hope they defy my expectations and make a great film.

(These concerns are worsened by the fact that Goyer of all people was at one point a writer on this project) Especially with a source material as silly as the original Godzilla. I'll just say to clarify that My favorite godzilla films were the films that didn't feature the "goofy millitary". Sure the camp element was always there, with building giant robots and lasers, but my favorite films always played the millitary and human element with a straight face even when they were piloting somthing that looked like a GI Joe toy. The tone I just see as an evolution that is a result of new technology and bigger budget. If the Super X-III had looked like a real millitary vehicle and the city/millitary that godzilla was destroying looked real it would by the very nature of human perception change the tone. That being said, I'll be the first one to be angry if this is just a millitary movie with 15 mins of Godzilla thrown in.
