For four years now, I’ve been making top 10 lists for my favorite films of the year. Usually, there’s a struggle when making the list depending on how many good the films were of that year. I type out the movies that I feel really stood out for me. The list is usually at 11-13, which makes the 10th spot a hard thing to choose. This year, there are 20 films that I feel should be on this list. This was the hardest list I’ve ever made. 2013 was such a great year for film, this is my list.
10. The World’s End 9. Elysium 8. Gravity 7. The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug 6. Saving Mr. Banks 5. Dallas Buyers Club 4. The Wolf of Wall Street 3. Captain Phillips 2. The Place beyond the Pines 1. 12 Years a Slave
Spiritual number one- Her Honorable Mentions: Man of Steel, Prisoners, This is the End, Star Trek into Darkness, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty
Films I did not see that might’ve been on this list: American Hustle, All is Lost, Inside Llewyn Davis, and Rush

My list is small - do not give me bullshit about release dates, they were all watched in the cinema in 2013 (the whole 3 of em)
in no order -
Cloud Atlas
Stoker
Snowpiercer (Original edit)
all 3 knocked my socks off.
Other great films I SAW THIS YEAR BUT WERE NOT RELEASED THIS YEAR include
Blue Rita
and er.... thats about it...

I'm only counting 2013 premieres in my list, and I'm not enthusiastic about enough movies to make a top 10. Here's a ranked top 5 of all great films:
1. The Wolf of Wall Street 2. Stray Dogs 3. Before Midnight 4. A Touch of Sin 5. Bastards
Other stuff that's good: Prisoners, 12 Years a Slave, The Grandmaster, The World's End, La Ultima Pelicula
Horseshit: American Hustle, Gravity, The Kings of Summer, Side Effects, Vic and Flo Saw a Bear

Fucking savages. See the original, a very good film indeed.

I want to know how many times the people of Spill.com went to the theaters. I went around 55 times. That's almost 5 times a month. Good times for me, good times.

You went enough for the both of us. I honestly cannot watch a movie at home without being distracted by talking, texting, laptop, or anything on my phone. So I need to see the movie in the theaters so I have zero distraction. I also don't like waiting six months to see a movie that I want to see.

I use to go twice a month and only to midnight screenings. If going to the movies 5 times a month is your thing that's cool. Maybe you should become a critic. I would go more but the older I get, the harder it is for me to see movies with large audiences. They fuck up my experience 75% of the time, I live in Florida (melting pot of fucked up people from all over the world).

The story was that a really good, well-known Korean director was directing the movie, but then the studio releasing it in America (and elsewhere I guess?), decided to chop it up according to how they thought the movie should've gone, so that it then was a sad husk of the original. I remember that the director was furious at what the studio had done as well, and he refused to release it outside Korea or did something drastic like that, to get back at the studio. Too bad the original comic hasn't been translated yet to English, since it sounds very interesting.

I doubt the director has the power to stop distribution, I believe that the 'flyover states' were mentioned in the reasoning behind some of the cuts. The scene in the middle I can understand why it could be a touchy subject for some and the end is not your standard. The Weinsteins are apparently notorious for cutting shit up. Even old shit, I downloaded their release of Jackie Chans Operation Condor and it was not the film of my youth, new soundtrack, comic scenes cut out, dialogue changed.... think it ran about 20 minutes shorter. No wonder I had many arguments about how fucking awesome that film was when w were arguing about different films. Like I said before, see the original cut, great film. Changes style and tone throughout, interesting indeed and some great performances. Also, the intro and end credits are in both english and korean, stylish and unexpected, doubt that will survive the recut. Fucking savages.

Yeah, now that you mention them, I remember Cyrus and Korey talking about how the Weinsteins often do that kinda shit with movies. I'll have to add Snowpiercer to my 'want to see' list on RottenTomatoes. Thanks for the information, and the reccomendation.
