Well, it’s negative -20 degrees here in Ohio. On days/nights like this, I stay in and watch movies. While watching a movie tonight, it got me thinking about the upcoming movies of 2014. This year is jammed packed with big movies like Godzilla, Captain America, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, and many others. This gets me very excited. This is my most anticipated movies of 2014. (If a movie isn’t on here, I may have forgotten about it. Or I have little interest in seeing it)
February
Robocop- I’m wary that movie will be PG-13 (Robocop should be R rated!) The trailers I’ve seen make it look promising. Usually movies released in the first two months are shit, but since the movie was originally an August release, it may not fall in that category.
The Monuments Men- I was really disappointed when I heard this movie got pushed to February. The movie looks like a knockout. George Clooney is a great writer and director. I wonder if the movie has any Oscar chances since it’s coming out so soon in the year.
March
The Grand Budapest Hotel- I’m a pretty big Wes Anderson fan, I love his style. This movie hooked me the moment I saw the first trailer. The cast is nothing short of impressive and the movie looks fantastic. I’m definitely looking forward to seeing this.
Noah- I’ve stated a few times on Spill that I’m a Christian. I of course got really excited when I saw who was directing and starring in the film. I was pretty impressed by the first trailer. I just hope they don’t change too much of the Biblical story. (Please no anti-Christian hate in the comments.)
April
Captain America: The Winter Solider- Fun fact, I actually saw the set of this film since it was filmed near my house. Captain America was one of my favorite phase one Marvel films. I’m of course excited for this movie. I like the Winter Solider character; I won’t spoil anything about him. It’s something you need to find out for yourself.
May
Godzilla- This was another film I was pretty wary of at first. But, that trailer looked so good! Bryan Cranston is in the film! That’s enough to get me excited.
X-Men: Days of Future Past- For a while, I thought the X-Men movies were done for. X-Men: The Last Stand was disappointing and X-Men Origins: Wolverine never happened. But these past two X-Men movies were so good. Bryan Singer is back directing and the original cast is back as well. This looks to be the best superhero film of the year.
June
22 Jump Street- The first film was a huge surprised. It turned out to be my favorite comedy of 2012. This movie looks just as funny. I’m a bit wary that the film will be like Hangover 2 and be the same film. Only time can tell.
July
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes- Like many films on this list; the first movie surprised the hell out me. This film looks like it’ll be another great entry in the new Plant of the Apes movies.
November
Interstellar- I’m a huge Nolan fan. He has yet to make a bad film. A lot of people had a problem with the teaser trailer. I really liked the teaser. Nolan is a master at making trailers; he knows what to show without given away anything major about the plot. This is my most anticipated film of the year.
December
Possible spoilers below
The Hobbit: There and Back Again- I really liked the first Hobbit film, and I loved the second one. I’m sad that this will be the last LoTR film. I’m very interested how the film will open up. Will it go straight to Smaug fucking up that town? Will it show Gandalf trying to escape from captivity? Who knows? I’m also interested how they’ll tie it in to the LoTR films. They’ll probably show Saruman crossing over to Sauron’s side.
Movies I’m wary about.
The Amazing Spiderman 2, How to Train Your Dragon 2, Guardians of the Galaxy, Transcendence.
