A week or so ago, I made predictions on who’s win at the Golden Globes. I actually did pretty well, there were some upsets, but I still did well. This is my predictions for the winners of the Academy Awards. Next to my prediction will be the film/person that I think should win.
Best Picture 12 Years a Slave. 12 Years a Slave
Best Director Alfonso Cuaron. Alfonso Cuaron
Best Actor Matthew McConaughey. Matthew McConaughey
Best Actress Cate Blanchett -- "Blue Jasmine". Cate Blanchett -- "Blue Jasmine"
Best Supporting Actor Jared Leto -- "Dallas Buyers Club", Michael Fassbender -- "12 Years a Slave"
Best Supporting Actress Jennifer Lawrence -- "American Hustle", Lupita Nyong'o -- "12 Years a Slave"
Best Original Screenplay "Her" -- Spike Jonze, "Her" -- Spike Jonze
Best Adapted Screenplay "12 Years a Slave" -- John Ridley, "The Wolf of Wall Street" -- Terence Winter
Best Animated Feature "Frozen", “Frozen”
Best Foreign Film "The Hunt" (Denmark), no opinion
Best Original Song "Frozen": "Let it go”, "Her": "The Moon Song"
Best Original Score "Gravity”, "Gravity"
Best Cinematography "Gravity”, "Prisoners"
Best Costume Design "12 Years a Slave", "12 Years a Slave"
Best Documentary Feature “The Act of Killing, no opinion
Best Film Editing "Captain Phillips" -- "Captain Phillips"
Best Makeup and Hairstyling Dallas Buyers Club, Dallas Buyers Club
Best Sound Mixing Gravity, Gravity
Best Sound Editing Gravity, Gravity
Best Production Design Gravity, 12 Years a Slave
Best Visual Effects Gravity, Gravity
I think Gravity will take home all of the technical awards. Like how Inception and Life of Pi did when they we’re nominated. As for 12 Years a Slave, I think it’ll be like Argo and win only a few categories, but win Best Picture. Who knows? Maybe the Academy might have American Hustle win…. Please no. I think American Hustle was a good movie, but it’s nowhere near as good as the rest.

I'll only comment on the Cinematography award, of which I think it'll go to Gravity but should go to Inside Llewlyn Davis. I'm not one of those who believes in the "gimme" awards that are only handed out to somebody just because they haven't won one before (Roger Deakins). While I won't deny the argument that Deakins should've won the award by now (for either The Shawshank Redemption or The Assassination Of Jesse James in their respective years), the people bitching that he should win this year for that reason are only part of the problem that denied the previous awards to him in the first place.

I predict that the Oscars will be full of twats patting themselves on the back giving awards to films they want to make more money out of and there will be no fair and balanced view on the decision making and that people will think that the self obsessed sycophantic morons involved are actually not cunts but real artists receiving an award that actually means something, which it does not. An exclusive club of egotists and verbal arse guff masters screaming to be looked at for 5 minutes.
Corrupt to the core but ya'll buy into it every fucking year.
annual anti oscar rant complete - continue to have your fun.

Does anyone think this Woody Allen sex scandal could ruin Cate Blanchett's chances of winning? Personally she should still be able to win as long as she remains quiet on the issue.

I don't think it'll ruin her chances. Who else are they going to give it to? Sandra Bullock? Amy Adams? The only one who deserves to win besides Blanchett is Meryl Streep, and I never say that. I honestly think Steep does deserve to win if Blanchett doesn't.

While the visuals are out of this world (teehee), the story and writing doesn't surpass something like 12 Years a Slave or Wolf of Wall Street. The Wind Rises might win Animated Feature. I really don't think that DiCaprio is going to win it. It's going to Matthew McConaughey, he's sweeping every award show. If DiCaprio won more awards for it besides the Globes, I'd be more open to the thought. Jonah Hill has zero chance of winning. It's going to Jared Leto, if not him, Michael Fassbender will win. Philomena could sweep the Oscars and Jonah Hill winning would be more surprising.

Every ballot report I've seen so far had Gravity in first or second, and those who put 12YAS up first said it's only because of the subject matter. Regarding Jonah Hill, we haven't seen him go up against his competitors at any persecuors, so I'm going out on a limb and predicting him. I'd say the likelihood is Leto, Hill, Abdi (lack of support for CP in nominations), Cooper, Fassbender.

Tom O'Neil over at Gold Derby (a site that's very in touch with sources) just posted this:
"Here's how CRAZY this year is. Normally, at this time of the race, I check in with one member of the producers' branch who is about 60 years old. His ballot is usually spot on with a few allowances made for his eccentricities. He voted for Crash for Best Picture and he picked Streep over Davis, etc. Last year when everybody was pulling their puds over Emmanuelle Riva, I called him up and asked him if there was any chance she could pull it off, he laughed hilariously and said "Fuck off!"
So I was very eager to get his take this year. I spoke to him yesterday. I couldn't believe what he told me -- Best Picture: AH Best Director: Payne or Russell -- he wasn't 100% sure Best Actor: Bale actress: Blanchett Supporting Actor -- he hadn't made up his mind yet Supporting Actress -- Lawrence
Some of that is crazy talk, of course. I spoke to a few other AMPAS members over the past few days and didn't get their votes in all races -- they just offered up a few, scattershot. I heard NO votes for Gravity for BP. Two were for Slave, one for Philomenia. One Leo vote, 2 McConaughey, 1 Chewie, everbody's voting for Cate. I heard at least 3 votes for Lawrence, only 1 for Lupita. None of them told me who they were for voting for in supporting actor.
I'm still on the case. I landed in NYC last night and will be seeing some east coast academy members this weekend."
You'd be surprised at how many members over there are in touch with members of the Academy. Besides this report, I've heard about 2 votes for Slave for picture, about 5 for Gravity, 1 for Nebraska, 1 for Alexander Payne, every other director vote for Cuaron, 5 for McConaughey, 2 for Leo, 1 for Ejiofor, 4 for Blanchett, 2 for Adams, 1 for Bullock and Dench each, one for Squibb, and 2 for Nyong'o and Lawrence each.
