For those of us who are really into history, what is your subject that has taken up more of your independent research time than any other? Favorite documentary (series)? Favorite historical movie/TV series? Mine is WWII and Holocaust studies, with conspiracy theory documentaries as a very, very close second. For my documentary it would be The Men Who Killed Kennedy. For film, it would be the independent film Who Killed John O'Neill?, an exploration of the mind of a man obsessed with finding the TRUTH behind the 9/11 terrorist attacks, to the point each distinct part of his brain splits apart into different beings and debate amongst themselves, like the Cynic, the Historian, the Philosopher and The Conspiracy Geek complete with computer full of facts to fact check the other "people". TV series is Band of Brothers, go torrent it.

For me, it'd have to go to Classical Antiquity: the rise and fall of the western world, and subsequently, leading to The Dark Ages. As a side, the rise of the church from the Middle Ages and into the Renaissance.
Second to that, I like watching/studying anything on the "occult" and "paranormal". From bigfoot to aliens, Biblical artifacts (said to contain mystical powers), monsters from folklore, magic, and above all: conspiracies linking all those things together. The shit is absolutely asinine and ridiculous but it's fun all the same. To think that reality isn't all what it's caked up to be and that there is some mysticism and fantasy in this hum-drum world is just an entertaining idea to me.

Most of my historical fascination began with World War II and that's still my main area, but I've expanded to military history and European history in general.
