Percy Jackson: sea of monsters I give it a low matinee. I thought it was pretty good for what it was.

they made another one? eh? thought that was a mega flop? The first one wasn't but this second was (kinda). I wasn't awful though, had a couple of pretty cool moments.

Pain & Gain - I kind of feel bad liking this, given how horrifying the actual story is, but this was pretty damn funny. The standout is The Rock, who is hilarious through the whole thing.
High Matinee!

Just caught Frozen and, eh, it's alright. It does the 'Disney princess' formula a bit differently but not enough to win me over (I've never understood the mass appeal and admiration for those "Disney Renaissance" movies). The chemistry and exchanges between Ana and Kristoff was appealing but everything else was just that Disney-patented quality of cute that I just can't stand (I found myself sighing and groaning through a good portion of this movie and wishing that show-stopping songs would just run its course and get on with it). I've never been much for these Broadway inspired showtunes in my animated movies; most of the time it's just exposition being sung or sing-songy excuses for actual character development. I know it's considered "Disney" to have these tropes but I think it's time to retire these things to trite move onto something with, I dunno, more thought.
Overall, I thought it was rather mediocre and, besides the few chuckles I had throughout, this movie made me groan and uncomfortable throughout (and slightly embarrassed) watching it. It's not for me; it's for kids and the young, cool adults who remember what the Disney movies are about, going back so far as The Little Mermaid and The Lion King. I give it a "The last good animated movie with showtunes that did it right was South Park: Bigger, Longer, and Uncut" out of "Cats Don't Dance is terribly underrated, and possibly the best, of these kinds of movies".

What a sad movie. Definitely not cool since I'm going through stuff myself.

Pain and Gain was good fun, complete idiots being audacious and funny to boot. Did not know that it was not generally well received...
Crocodile Dundee 2 - more shite
Crocodile Dundee 3 - Paul Hogan is old as fuck - shite BUT it had Janice Soprano and Mike from Breaking Bad in it so was not a complete waste of time.... no wait... yes it was.... shite...
I need something good to watch, pronto... I went to go to the cinema but Thailand (unlike Korea) dub everything into their native language, this puts me off a little. I would happily go see a Thai (or Korean at the time) film with no subs but an English speaking movie with bad dubbing would kill me face off I rekon...
@steve Cowie (or whatever after spill moniker is, message me your address, I have a film to send you, could be a good double bill with Mystics in Bali, will watch his afternoon and report back...) ..... ahem

I watched Russ Meyer's Up! with the IFC earlier tonight. I want to write a review for it... but I can't... I'm just too scarred from the experience. I don't know if I loved hating it or hated loving it. All I know is I'll probably never sleep again.

I bought Up! along with Supervixens and few other assorted trash cinema beasts on VHS years back, not sure if I ever watched it, was that the one was simply tit shots after tit shots after tit shots? (not that that narrows it down any...
also, how does one join the IFC?

The Black Gestapo, well what can I say? an over the top romp of the blaxploitaion nature. What a hoot, a peace loving black gentleman trying to do right by his community by feeding them and getting them off drugs stupidly gives a nutter permission to recruit 6 thugs to stop the tyranny of whitey mafia and ends up having to deal with power mad generals army single handed. Laughed like fuck did I well worth the wait. It gets... honkey hairy brain removal in the bath/he saw them flushed down the shitter just before bleeding to death

Up! is the one that starts with Hitler being tortured in an S&M dungeon for ten minutes before getting butt-fucked and sucking a dude off (will drinking bleach make me forget I saw that?). It gets better after that, simply because things can't get worse, and I have to admit it made me laugh out loud at least a dozen times, which isn't an easy thing for a movie to do. All you gotta do to join the IFC is be in our chatroom once we get a movie going. I'll try to find a way to get you a link to it without posting it publicly. Last time I put a public link up we got a lot of knobs in there that just wanted attention for being present.

If it's not online, then I haven't been keeping up; Most of my viewing has been Parks & Rec in the kitchen because I've been a bit burnt out from just hearing about movie after movie this last summer. Maybe I'll find a good medieval aged movie or just switch to Game of Thrones Season 2. Nothing has been really striking me enough to care either way in terms of films. May I thank you? Because I'm going to thank you as I generally don't like Disney as it is but that especially has had me addled. Sometimes being at Spill felt like being the jaundiced black sheep in terms of animation particularly in those types of appeals. The latter point especially hits me right on the money because I can't bloody stand musicals as it is, and I've grown up to abhor Disney's musical insertions over even the most egregious kidz bob level song thrown in the middle of some random DreamWorks picture. In fact the only recent example of a random song/musical number that I actually enjoyed was in American Horror Story Season 2 because it fit the asylum's absolutely insane atmosphere and struck this sensation of internal sublimation. Not even a movie, again, though ha ha. From the trailers it was that stupid snowman that was all I ever need to see to know to avoid Frozen like it was an apocalyptic ice age. And of course I have to give Disney an obligatory sarcastic slow clap because *Congratulations on once again thumbing through the public works, Disney, Good for you!!!*
Speaking of public works, Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters is on Netflix. Uh boy. Dammit Netflix, you should have listend to the Spill review because it wasn't worth buying rights for. Every time I see one of those horrid flops in the New releases tab I can't help but owe Red Box a lot of the blame. It seems they almost have to buy plaayback rights for these abortions just to stay competitive with Red Box who, being realistic here, caters to the 98% of fucking dipshit morons who are still searching for the "Orbital Laser" feature on their "Blu-Rays" and use a vinyl record player to try and watch a DVD. Anyone who manages to scratch up a disc as bad as rentals always came could make a Wal-Mart greeter look downright precocious and a degree in Philosophical Musings on Zombies seem reasonable. Now I'm reminded that all the local theaters are also a wreak, so off to the Netflix again. Wish me luck...
