The Hobbit 2: Very enjoyable movie, I had fun with it. Didn't care much for the LotR movies but I found Morgan Freeman to be a much more interesting lead, only wish he had more screen time. Mama: Jessica Chastain, Jessica Chastain tits, Jessica Chastain looking like Alice Glass, Jessica Chastain ass in tight jeans, Jessica Chastain cleavage. That's about it as far as positive points go in this film. On a serious note though, some interesting visuals buried in a terrible storyline with an even shittier ending, I'll save everyone's time by posting the best part of the movie in a gif: *Martin Freeman*

Jacob's Ladder - High Matinee. I wish there was more creepy imagery in this, because the stuff that is there is so good (the subway, all the shaky people, and of course the hospital scene). Middle act was a little slow. Points for having Jason Alexander and Macaulay Culkin.

Blackfish - Finally, a movie that shares not only my hate of Seaworld (and zoos, overall) but makes a compelling case on why you should, too. I give it 70+ documented Orca attacks on Seaworld "traniers" out of four highly publicized mutilations by one really frustrated, intelligent, pissed off, killer whale. Thanks for reminding me about this, was on my to watch list but got overlooked. I agree with your hatred of seaworld and wish more of the arseholes that worked there (higher up ones) could have been killed or maimed at least. Very good documentary with the odd shouty bit at screen. I'll award it- fuck you seaworld/orcas rule

Supervixens: Just got through with this in the IFC, and my rating is what a certain someone commented: an unending nightmare of a film.
I loved it. Russ Meyers, you are the most underrated filmaker of all time.

Russ might be up there with the likes of Andy Sidaris: greats who went completely overlooked by their contemporaries.

The Wolverine - Citizen Kane in comparison to X-Men Origins, but it still has some issues. The girl who played Viper was kind of awful and the last fight scene was a bit lacking. Other than that, its a pretty good action movie.
Matinee!

Slaughter. Big Jim Brown takin' care of the mob fucks that offed his daddy! I was going to include the word HAVOC but that would imply that he was anything but calm the whole way through. Thoroughly enjoyable and well worth the wait. It gets Jim Brown is godlike/don't fuck with Jim Browm Vampire Hookers. 2 hapless Us navy twats get mixed up with 3 very attractive and overtly horny hookers with fangs and their literary nut older gentleman vampire friend. The igor role is filled nicely with an overly flatulent vampire wannabe. I give it don't fart in your coffin/really long sex scene

Sleepy Hollow - Full Price! I had only seen bits and pieces of this until now. I REALLY wish Tim Burton would do more dark, gory movies like this. I really like the thick tomato-soup looking blood in this, which also popped up in Sweeney Todd. Movies like these two are so much better than his overly-quirky Willy Wonka and Alice In Wonderland adaptations. Some absolutely gorgeous shots/effects in this. Enjoyed the fun overacting. The romance between Johnny Depp and Christina Ricci is a little weird because he looks like a full grown man and she looks like a 14 year old (albeit with great cleavage, which is a recurring visual theme in this).

Watched last night....The Girl From Rio (Jesus Franco, 1969), Rubber (Quentin Dupieux, 2010) aaand Lovely Molly (Eduardo Sanchez, 2011). LM was a bit of a mish mash and not really deserving of the plaudits I've seen it acrue. Ho hum. 6/10. Rubber is what it is, after seeing Wrong Cops, this chap is my new favourite director. TGFR is a hoot, with many pointers towards the direction he would travel in the 70s.

Room 237 - A shockingly poor documentary about people with too much goddamned time on their hands. Most of the theories presented about The Shining are hilariously insane and that could have still made for a great movie. I was astounded at just how lackluster the production quality is. 90% of the movie is comprised of the same few clips from The Shining, Eyes Wide Shut, and an old B&W movie I don't recognize. The interviewees come across not as film scholars but as obsessive nutjobs. The standout is the guy who sounds like he's in the middle of a Skype conversation. He can't stop saying "like" and he couldn't even be bothered to rerecord an entire sequence where his child is crying in the background. I am not remotely exaggerating. He stops narrating and goes to calm his son down while the mic is still running and all you can think is, "How fucking unprofessional do you have to be to not only not turn the mic off, but not even redo the scene? What editor let that into the movie?" There is no good reason for this to have screened at a festival. There's no good reason to put this on a DVD or Blu-Ray. This level of shoddy production is more suited for a YouTube video.
Despite everything I just said, this movie didn't make me angry at all. Its hysterical, and that's what saved Room 237 from a Fuck You.
Some Ol' Bullshit!

12 Years A Slave: if this movie weren't so well done technically, this could've been considered an exploitation film in the vhs days. Great acting, directing, and writing all throughout but it all just seems to be there to support the brutal beatings that are given in this movie. I don't really know how I feel about this movie, it feels like everytime a slavery movie comes out, they have to out-do the last one in violence and validate its brutality as "being real" or "having actually happened" so it's okay to go to eleven when it comes to showing someone getting whipped by Indiana Jones. Desensitized isn't the word but I am weary at this point of seeing movies that are, by all accounts, great with leading black people but they're playing one of three roles: slaves, butlers, and maids.
There are some unintentionally funny moments I found myself chuckling at, though. Nothing about the material but how it was handled at points was what got to me. For instance, their unrelenting emphasis on the word "nigger". Everytime it's said, it is said with the utmost drama: the music will drop out, the actor will then pause before saying the word, say the word in a slightly more intense manner of speaking, pause again, and the music picks back up and the scene continues. Like, the movie will literally pause so you can hear the word "nigger".
Overall, I give this movie 4 lashings out of 5 "your name is Toby". For all it's technical brilliance, it can be overbearing and melodramatic. I get it, I get it; slavery is bad and white people be crazy. Can I see a great movie with black folks that isn't about slavery (or some manner of servitude) now?
