I've been playing a lot of Skyrim again lately. It's good but there's just so much stuff it can be overwhelming.

Dark Souls. I keep getting hosed by the two bosses in Andor Londo. Motherfuckers... In the New Game+ of that, I get help from Solaire and from another online guy and they still wipe the floors with me. I've since given up and moved on. Replaying Majora's Mask, myself though that's on break until I get a wired controller for the emulator. I tell you, directional keys lack any subtlety.

Fuck that; wired all the way. The day wireless controllers are an advent is the day when it has unlimited power supply.

Recently finished Hotline Miami. Totally worth the 2 dollars. I guess. I was thinking of getting Skyrim for cheap on the PC even though I was totally underwhelmed with the console version. Has anyone not totally in love with the vanilla game found that modding it makes it worth while? Especially if you managed to make the combat not stink on ice.

Picks up Gears of War 3 yesterday. I'll probably start that tonight.

I liked Skyrim on 360, and liked it a lot more on PC. My favorite mods are the ones that improve the graphics and items, but there are ones that change the combat system.

There are mods for the 360, too (both graphics and combat), but I hear the drawback is if you didn't install it right: it'll fuck your shit up.

Just finished a lvl 1 run of Dark Souls and put together a quick sl25 build to cheese all the scrubs who just bought the game during the Thanksgiving sale, which has been pretty hilarious. Probably going to pick it back up when the next sale comes around. Playing CS:GO a lot recently because my old cs group from high school has just randomly started playing again after like 5 years of absence. I've also been playing X:Rebirth, which is a pure comfy game. Replaying Thief: Deadly Shadows because I have been so fucking depressed about all the news coming out about the new thief game. Still playing ARMA 3 every now and then, when I have the patients or time to sink into it. Replaying Deadly Premonition because of the PC release. Picked Dragon's Dogma up again and restarted my character.
Just beat: Gone Home, 30 Flights of Loving, Gunpoint, DE:HR (pacifist run), Mirror's Edge, Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs, Outlast, and Alan Wake's American Nightmare

I took a chance and downloaded Skyrim as well as some of its most popular and highly recommended mods. Still not feeling it.
I think the problem is that no matter how pretty people can make the game look, the combat and animations are irreparable. No mod I've come across can fix them and I'm not sure my PC could even handle a mod that would so drastically overhaul the game.
Still gonna give it a go intermittently throughout this Chrimbus break. Take a mod here, leave a mod there. I refuse to give up on this game for some reason.
Bethesda really needs to work on their character animations and voice acting and writing and holy shit those weapon designs look like something GothicKingCobra would scribble on his arm though.

Overhauls won't really hinder your game performance unless they're related to graphics, like LOD, textures, lightning, shadows, etc. But yeah, Bethesda really likes using that shitty outdated engine for whatever reason, and will probably continue to do so with the next FO/ES, so none of the things that you want to see improved will be improved in the future. As far as weapon designs go, they got you covered mods-wise: i.imgur.com/cGNSyKi.jpgi.imgur.com/0g0JVRc.jpg
